Did you know Mrs Smith didn't get married until 1956? Here is a picture taken on their wedding day.💍

When Mr & Mrs Smith tied the knot, they sent out pieces of wedding cake to people who couldn't attend and attached a small card with their greetings. We even have a copy of that card in our exhibition!

This appears to be a tradition that is less observed for today's married couples.

What kind of cake do you think Mr & Mrs Smith had at their wedding? 💭

Did you know that Mrs Smith loved gardening?🌹

The garden outside the cottage was Mrs Smith's pride and joy, and she claimed to have something in bloom for every day of the year.

As someone from a working class background, having a patch of land that she could use to simply grow beautiful things would have been prestigious, and Mrs Smith was rightly rather proud of it!

Here she is, photographed with her roses, which can still be seen today.

What do you think Mrs Smith's favourite flower was? 💭

On this day in 1974... Mrs Smith made 4lbs of apple chutney! What a busy day. 🍎

In the cottage garden stands a cooking apple tree that can be traced back to well before the 1950s. Every year it bears some fruit, the same that Mrs Smith would've used in her recipes.

We sell apple chutney made to her recipe in our shop - have you tried it yet? 🍽
