Mrs Smith’s Cottage in Navenby is a rare time capsule of a bygone era. Restored & ready to welcome you thanks to Heritage Lottery Funding.

On this day in 1957... Mrs Smith's husband, Joe, a On this day in 1957... Mrs Smith's husband, Joe, and Frank laid the concrete for Mrs Smith's garden plinth! 

Joe built this for Mrs Smith so that she would be able to reach her washing line without her sheets draping on the ground. You can still see it today outside the shop.

This week, the NavenBees will be in the colourful garden, and having a go at painting what they see. 🎨

We will also have a selection of garden games to try!

Bring your little bees along for hands-on learning about our natural world – with stories, crafts, and have-a-go gardening for ages 2-5.

£2.50 per child, adults free - no need to book.

Based in our modern learning centre. This year, we have:
🎨A DIY ice cream parlour inspired by a day in the life of Mrs Smith
🎨Nature-inspired colouring sheets and bookmarks
🎨Decorate your own butterfly

We also have a range of children's books, games & puzzles to keep your little ones entertained all summer long. 

We are open 12-4pm Friday-Monday. All crafts are included in your admission fee to the cottage. Booking recommended to avoid disappointment!

The Mrs Smith's team are busy getting ready for th The Mrs Smith's team are busy getting ready for the Big Butterfly Count taking place here next weekend! Look at these beautiful drawings. 🎨

Join us from the 24th - 27th July to take part. Spend 15 minutes relaxing in our cottage garden and make note of the butterfly species you see. We will have guides for you to use, so you don't have to be an expert to take part.

We will also have a butterfly trail and crafts, so there is something for the whole family to enjoy! 🦋

Entry to cottage gardens is free of charge. Crafts and trail are included in your admission fee. We recommend booking to avoid disappointment!

Join us for the Big Butterfly Count from the 24th- Join us for the Big Butterfly Count from the 24th-27th of July!

Relax for 15 minutes in our wonderful cottage garden, and see which species of butterflies you can spot. We will have guides available, so you don't need to be an expert to take part.

The count is a really important tool in assessing the health of our butterfly population, and we would love for as many people as possible to take part in this vital research. More information can be found on the Big Butterfly Count's website: https://bigbutterflycount.butterfly-conservation.org/.

The weekend is suitable for all ages. We will also have a cottage butterfly trail and crafts available - these are included in your admission fee. We recommend pre-booking your visit to avoid disappointment!

We have both set and runny honey at £7.00 per jar.🌻🐝

Conservation in action! 🖌✨ Today it was Mrs Smith Conservation in action! 🖌✨

Today it was Mrs Smith's pantry's turn for a dusting from our conservation assistant. Using soft bristled brushes is a good way to remove surface dust and dirt, without damaging the object underneath.

Tomorrow is the final day of our 'Caring for the Cottage' event, we are open between 12-4pm and you'd all be very welcome to join us.

You will have the chance to:
-View common museum pests, wallpaper, and fabric samples under our digital handheld microscopes
-Learn how pests are managed in historical buildings
-Try out professional cleaning methods to discover how collections are cared for
-Take part in pest-themed crafts, including making your own to take home!

Look at this super haul of carrots and rhubarb fro Look at this super haul of carrots and rhubarb from our garden - all thanks to our head gardener for this green-thumbed wizardry! Freshly grown and picked... you can't get better than that. 🥕

Mrs Smith also grew her own food in her allotment that was just behind the cottage, and she was self-sufficient for many months of the year.
